JERSEY CITY, NJ--(Marketwired - Mar 31, 2014) - QualityHealth (www.QHperform.com), the largest digital patient identification and engagement platform for health products and services, today announced an expansion of its clinical trial recruitment services to include an advanced opt-in program -- the QualityHealth Clinical Trial Connection. This new program offers health consumers the opportunity to educate themselves about the benefits of enrolling in clinical trials and to identify relevant trials for their areas of interest.
Clinical trials, a critical and growing piece of the biopharmaceutical industry, have experienced changes that bring unique challenges and opportunities. In the last decade, the number of providers for clinical trials has increased nearly fourfold, according to a recent study conducted by the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development. This increase in activity and competition calls attention to the burgeoning need for accuracy and cost control in identifying appropriate patients for the many trials being conducted. An omnibus study from the NIH showed that only one third of patients interviewed were willing to participate in a clinical trial, and 40% of respondents didn't even know what a clinical trial was, pointing to the increased importance of both education and screening.
Because of its long history of collecting patient data with permission to serve patient needs, QualityHealth is well suited to translate the trust patients have in its integrity into recruitment for clinical trials. The company has optimized the Clinical Trial Connection user experience so that visitors to the site feel well informed and respected. The main benefit for companies conducting trials is that QualityHealth has developed a rigorous algorithm that will provide the right kind of identifying factors to pre-qualify users in high volumes. This increases the likelihood of randomizing these health consumers.
Visitors to the site who have an interest in clinical trials and inquire about diabetes, for instance, are directed to a page explaining in detail the nature and benefits of clinical trials, and offering an opportunity to see the trials being conducted for diabetes. They can indicate their willingness to participate and go through the trial-specific screening process to see if they qualify. They also get a short tutorial on what to expect in the study.
"The viability and success of our methodology have already been shown with our early partners," said Rob Rebak, QualityHealth's Chairman and CEO. "In one eight-month period, QualityHealth outperformed all other media channels including print, TV, radio, direct mail, and other digital, in the number of profiled and qualified targets reached for a large multi-center cardiovascular trial. And so far, QualityHealth is responsible for 20% of the randomized subjects enrolled in the trial. That's very impressive. We're reaching the right people, at high volumes, and helping them understand the value of participation -- making the process to randomization highly efficient and effective for our biopharmaceutical and CRO partners."
QualityHealth has other metrics that show how much faith consumers place in its health information. 47% of QualityHealth visits generated a doctor's office visit within the 30-day period following site exposure -- 8% more than three other leading health websites. And 56% of QualityHealth visits drove a new prescription in the 30-day period following site exposure, 4% higher than the new prescription rate for the other three sites.
Rebak also indicated that there is a growing interest in digital methods of recruitment to deliver the necessary targeting precision efficiently and at scale. "Going deeper into clinical trial recruitment is a natural application of the QualityHealth platform. With our patient identification and activation systems, we are able to profile patients according to condition and geography, gauge their interest in participating in a trial, screen for clinical trial inclusion and exclusion criteria, and channel the qualified patients through to the closest research site. Ultimately QualityHealth's referral management services can track the patients all the way through to randomization," added Rebak.
The data collected will also be useful to patients and sponsors in identifying offers for other health products and services pertinent to the patient's condition, as QualityHealth has always done. "Our life science marketing clients deserve smarter and more targeted patient engagement solutions," said Chris Neuner, Executive Vice President, Sales and Account Management, at QualityHealth. "We feel a responsibility to them to continually raise the bar on the value of the information we amass."
This latest initiative joins other QualityHealth innovations such as their partnership with MD On-Line (MDOL) (www.mdol.com), which delivers diagnosis- and procedure-triggered patient education to help physicians meet Meaningful Use standards and deliver more effective education to their patients.
