Quantum Joins Active Archive Alliance

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 26, 2013) - Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM), a proven global expert in data protection and big data management, today announced that it has joined the Active Archive Alliance -- a collaborative industry association formed to educate end-user organizations on the evolving new technologies that enable reliable, online and efficient access to their archived data.

"Having built out a broad range of file system, object storage and tape solutions, we look forward to working with other Alliance members to share ideas and help users create and manage active archives that enable them to realize the full value of their data," said Mark Pastor, strategic marketing at Quantum. "Active archives have varied access requirements and new technologies like LTFS tape and next-gen object storage will increasingly have a place as these archives grow to unprecedented levels in volume."

Organizations are archiving increasing amounts of data as they grapple with data growth, compliance rules and the need to preserve content for analysis and unforeseen future opportunities. As the volume of archive data has grown, the challenge of accessing that data when needed has intensified. Active archive solutions resolve this issue by turning offline archives into visible, accessible extensions of online storage systems -- enabling fast, easy access to all archived data through a file system interface.

Quantum uniquely offers a wide range of products that are built to support active archive needs:

  • Built on dispersed object storage technology, Lattusdisk archives offer extreme scalability, much greater durability and efficiency than RAID, and low latency for predictably fast retrieval times in multi-petabyte environments.
  • StorNext® software and appliances can manage up to one billion files and dozens of petabytes of tiered storage across primary disk, object storage and tape libraries to effectively address ultra-fast workflow requirements. Supporting all major operating systems and storage platforms, StorNext provides high-performance file sharing and policy-based archiving.
  • With self-healing and self-monitoring features, the full range of Scalar® enterprise, midrange and SMB tape libraries intelligently and reliably manages and securely protects archived data. Quantum's recently announced Scalar i6000 HD offers active-active robots and the industry's highest slot density, and can scale to more than 75 PB of capacity. In addition, the company's Scalar LTFS appliance provides an easy-to-use NAS file system presentation for accessing data archives on tape.

Quantum will showcase its latest Lattus, StorNext and Scalar product offerings in its booth (#SL9016) at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference. Additionally, Quantum will participate in the Active Archive Alliance booth (#SL15217) at the conference, which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 8-11, 2013.
