Quantum Scores Top Ranking for All Categories in Storage Magazine's Tape Library Quality Awards

"Clean Sweep" in Both Enterprise and Midrange Reinforces Company's Data Protection Expertise and Benefits to Customers From Intelligent Solutions Focus

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 15, 2011) - Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM), a proven global expert in data protection and big data management, today announced that it captured the top spot overall and in all five rating categories of the Storage magazine/ Quality Awards for both enterprise and midrange tape libraries. These awards are designed to identify and recognize tape products that have demonstrated quality and reliability in actual use. Assessed by qualified readers of Storage magazine, vendors are ranked overall and in five main categories: product features, initial product quality, product reliability, sales-force competence and technical support.

Quantum scored significantly higher than other suppliers across the board, and the strength of its offerings is reflected throughout a Storage magazine article on the awards ("Big and small Quantum tape libraries lead the field," December 2011), as these sample comments demonstrate:

  • " impressive overall [enterprise] win highlighted by a clean sweep of the five
    rating categories."
  • "...the highest winning score we've ever seen for midrange product reliability."
  • "...mastery of the midrange was clear... [and included] the only above-7.00 category ratings for product features (7.06) and initial product quality (7.03)."
  • "...the only 7.00-plus statement score with a 7.15 for scaling [in the enterprise]..."
  • "...highest scores [for midrange product features] were for management features (a very impressive 7.24) and interoperability (7.21)."
  • "...beating the competition on every statement in this category [of enterprise initial
    product quality]."
  • "...the second-highest tech support category score ever for midrange tape libraries."
  • "...scored highest on all six statements in the [enterprise] sales-force
    competence category..."

Embedded with intelligent iLayer™ management software, Quantum's full range of Scalar® tape libraries is built to address the demands of data protection and big data archive needs. This year, the company enhanced its enterprise tape libraries with new features such as dual robotics for high availability and EDLM (Extended Data Life Management) which checks the integrity of tapes used for backup, disaster recovery or archive. Additionally, the Scalar i6000 was further integrated with Quantum's StorNext Storage Manager™ to automatically tier data or migrate it from a faulty tape to a new one based on policies set by the storage administrator.

"Over the past year, Quantum has significantly expanded our solutions portfolio, with new DXi® deduplication, vmPRO™ virtual data protection and StorNext® big data management offerings," said Rob Clark, senior vice president, Disk and Tape Data Protection Group, Quantum. "At the same time, we've stayed focused on providing industry-leading benefits to tape automation customers, as our first place finish in the Quality Awards demonstrates. With 80 percent of users still using tape as part of their data protection infrastructure and tape playing an increasing role in big data archiving, we will continue to deliver new innovations while integrating technologies such as path-to-tape, storage tiering, data integrity checking, and consolidated management into our disk and software solutions to address customers' evolving storage needs."
