Quartier Vanier Farmers Market Starts July 7

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 5, 2012) - Back by popular demand, the Vanier Farmers Market kicks off bigger and more bountiful Saturday July 7th. Local produce from area farmers and vendors will be sold at the corner of Montreal Road and Hannah starting at 9 am. The Quartier Vanier BIA is proud to have been the first BIA in Ottawa to actually initiate a farmers market for residents and visitors to the area. "Now in its 5th season, we are pleased to see other BIAs following suit as local produce is essential to all and outdoor markets are a great way to bring a community together," says Suzanne Valiquet, Executive Director of the QV BIA.

The Vanier Community and surrounding area have supported the Vanier Farmers Market in a big way. Over the years it has featured local artists and several local merchants. Maison Baguettes, Todrics, Bobby's Table and Agop's Armenian and Lebanese foods have all taken part in the market. Several chef demonstrations and local musicians have entertained crowds and add to the flavour of a true village like community happening. This September, the Vanier Market will hold its famous Tourtière Competition. Other theme events are planned such as a German Feast, featuring a German band, food, animals and more.

The Quartier Vanier BIA is always interested in exploring new ideas that create a sense of community and bring people together. It sponsored Ottawa's first ever pop up event on Beechwood Avenue last Saturday June 23, 2012. Art in the Park (ing lot) attracted more than 130 people in its first hour. Visual and vocal artists along with giant chess games, a children's mural were all part of the activities. Local merchants also took part in making for a great time.
