Quebec Metallurgy Centre Receives Funding from Government of Canada

TROIS-RIVIÈRES, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - May 14, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced that the Quebec Metallurgy Centre (Centre de métallurgie du Québec - CMQ) has been granted financial assistance for the acquisition of specialized equipment. This announcement followed a speech delivered earlier in the morning by the Minister to the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Trois-Rivières on the importance of innovation for the development of Quebec's regions and small and medium-sized enterprises.

"By lending financial support to the Quebec Metallurgy Centre, the Government of Canada is reaffirming its commitment to making innovation the key to our country's economic future," said Minister Lebel.

The CMQ is a college centre for technology transfer established by Trois-Rivières CEGEP in 1985. A veritable reference for the metallurgy industry, the centre is dedicated to, among other things, ensuring the transfer of the concrete applications resulting from applied research to businesses in the sector. The CMQ used this financial assistance from Canada Economic Development to purchase and install leading-edge equipment.

"Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," Minister Lebel concluded.

Information:

This assistance, granted in the form of a $1 million non-repayable financial contribution, has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Quebec Economic Development Program.
