All black-and-white books published by Quebecor to be printed on recycled paper made of 100% post-consumer fibre Videotron launches major e-billing conversion campaign, in cooperation with Earth Day On April 22, the program "On n'a pas toute la soirée" will be entirely devoted to Earth Day, an event celebrated around the world

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - April 4, 2007) - Quebecor is pleased to announce the launch of a series of initiatives for the environment.

Books printed on recycled paper made of 100% post-consumer fibre

Quebecor announces that under an agreement between its subsidiaries Quebecor World and Groupe Livre Quebecor Media, and the Cascades paper company, all books published in black and white by Groupe Livre Quebecor Media are now being printed on recycled paper made of 100% post-consumer fibre. The switch to "Quebecor Enviro Book 100" paper, which is being specially manufactured by Cascades at Quebecor's request, will save 34,000 trees per year.

"As the largest publisher and distributor of French-language books in Quebec and Canada, and one of the largest book printers in the world, we have a duty to do our part and do the right thing for the environment," said Pierre Karl Peladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor. "I am pleased to be working with Cascades and its President, Mr. Alain Lemaire, who took over a family business just as I did. Alain's father was well ahead of his time on the environment. My father and Alain Lemaire's father belonged to a generation of builders. We must continue in their footsteps and wed economic growth with sustainable development in Quebec."

Alain Lemaire is pleased by the fast-growing interest in environmentally friendly paper: "Cascades is making a significant effort to shrink its environmental footprint by reducing and reusing fibre, energy and water wherever possible. It is satisfying for the company and for all Cascades employees, who care about the environment and environmental protection. This initiative by Quebecor shows it is possible to take concrete action to improve the state of our planet."

Quebecor and subsidiaries partner with Earth Day

Videotron, an integrated telecommunications company, is launching an advertising campaign today featuring its spokesperson, singer/songwriter Daniel Boucher, in order to encourage its customers to switch to online billing. Under a partnership with the environmental organization Earth Day Quebec, a tree will be planted for each Videotron customer who agrees to receive his or her invoice by Internet. Therefore, not only will e-billing save trees, but more trees will be planted. Customers can subscribe to online billing on Videotron's website by going to and following the on-screen instructions. Videotron and Earth Day urge citizens to take this simple, practical step today. It is an environmentally responsible act that will help reduce our consumption of raw materials.

Special reports on the environment in the media

Quebecor will also expand editorial content related to environmental issues in its media outlets. In addition to a regular column by Hubert Reeves, well-known astrophysicist and science popularizer who joined Le Journal de Montreal in January, and regular news coverage, which already devotes considerable space to the environment, special reports will be published each week in Le Journal de Montreal, Le Journal de Quebec and all Sun newspapers, starting today. Quebecor's magazines will cover environmental issues as well and a special section dedicated to the environment is being launched today on the Canoe website and its French-language sister site Canoe (

Earth Day special on the TVA Network

In addition, on April 22, the date of Earth Day celebrations around the world, the TVA Network will carry a special edition of the program "On n'a pas toute la soiree." Performers and other personalities will talk about their commitment to the environment, among them Prince Albert II of Monaco, Patron of the United Nations Environment Program's Billion Tree Campaign, of which the Videotron/Earth Day tree planting campaign is part. Les Respectables and Marjo will perform.

Finally, Vox will begin airing a new season of "Vert tendre," a program about environmental responsibility, in September 2007.

As a major sponsor of Earth Day Quebec, Quebecor is pleased to be able to muster the resources of its subsidiaries in order to provide Earth Day with printing services and media visibility for its activities.
