MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2013) - Quebecor (TSX:QBR.A)(TSX:QBR.B) is pleased to be associated with the La Québécoise and La Montréalaise cyclosportives as official media partner. The two mass participation cycling events will be held on September 12 and 14, 2013, before the Québec City and Montréal Grands Prix Cyclistes, which are part of the UCI WorldTour. The partnership continues Quebecor's long tradition of support for cycling, a sport that now has many thousands of fans and practitioners in Québec.
"Quebecor is already the proud official broadcaster of the UCI WorldTour Grands Prix Cyclistes pro events held in Québec, two elite races that help put Québec on the world stage," said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor and an avid cyclist. "The La Québécoise and La Montréalaise cyclosportives give all Québec amateur cyclists a chance to test their skills on courses designed by and for world-class professional athletes. Quebecor's support for both the pro and amateur events responds to the growing popularity of cycling in Québec and its increasingly passionate following."
As the official media partner, Quebecor will promote the cyclosportives by leveraging the synergies among its subsidiaries, including TVA Group and its TVA Sports channel, Le Journal de Montréal, Le Journal de Québec and 24 Heures.
Quebecor's involvement is in keeping with its longstanding commitment to cycling. Quebecor regularly covers cycling events on all its media platforms, the only media group in Québec to do so. For years, Quebecor has partnered with a number of other major cycling events in Québec, including the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, the Granfondo Garneau-Cascades, the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau and others. Quebecor is also the proud sponsor of the Garneau-Quebecor team, which was considered Canada's best amateur cycling team in 2012 and named team of the year in Québec. 2013 promises to be an exciting year for supporters of the Garneau-Quebecor team as it joins the pro UCI Continental Tour.
