Quebec's First Wind Energy Industry Gala: Laureates honoured

MATANE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - May 8, 2008) - At the culmination of a magical evening, the laureates of Quebec's First Wind Energy Industry Gala, presented by Hydro-Quebec, were honoured in the presence of over 230 people yesterday. Six businesses distinguished themselves particularly, winning the honours in the five featured categories.

The Gaspe Peninsula firm, PESCA Environnement, located in Carleton-sur-Mer, achieved special distinction by taking two trophies, in the Advancement and Organisation of the Year categories. Specialising in environment-related consultancy services, PESCA Environnement especially caught the jury's attention for the innovative nature of its services, its efforts over the years and its performance in the area of research and development as well as for the organisational and financial example it sets within the industry.

The engineering consultancy firm GENIVAR and the wind turbine blade manufacturer LM Glasfiber Canada shared the Outreach trophy. These two organisations achieved distinction for the way they have developed their markets in Quebec and elsewhere, and for their positions within the industry and ability to raise awareness about Quebec know-how.

The Rising Star trophy saluted the excellence of the work done by the Gaspe firm Le Groupe Ohmega. Active notably in wind farm automation and telecommunications, Le Groupe Ohmega is reputed for its activities in an innovative sector of the wind energy industry, its ability to meet start-up challenges and its vision for mid- and long-term development.

As for the Personality of the Year trophy, it went to Gilles Lefrancois, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. The jury chose to reward Mr. Lefrancois for his leadership qualities, his contribution to positioning Quebec's wind energy industry and his sound professional relations within the wind power community.

Finally, the jury took the initiative to present a Jury's Choice award to Groupe Collegia to recognise its contribution to the development of a competent and specialised labour force. Groupe Collegia has established the only wind turbine maintenance training program offered in Quebec.

Quebec's First Wind Energy Industry Gala is an initiative of the Wind Energy TechnoCentre. For Andre Lemieux, general manager of the organisation that came up with the idea, the evening was a resounding success. "The purpose of the event was to reward and recognise the work of the organisations and individuals that have made particularly outstanding contributions to the wind power sector in Quebec. With all the upcoming developments in the wind energy sector over the course of the next few months, we will certainly be organising a second edition of Quebec's Wind Energy Industry Gala," said Lemieux.
