Queen's University Selects Brightspace as Its Campus-Wide Integrated Learning Platform

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON--(Marketwired - January 22, 2015) - D2L (formerly Desire2Learn), the EdTech company that created Brightspace -- the world's first truly integrated learning platform (ILP) -- today announced that Queen's University has selected Brightspace as its campus-wide learning platform. Beyond providing an industry-leading learning environment, Brightspace will support Queen's strategic teaching and learning initiatives, including the use of data analytics, the social sharing of content and the tracking of learning outcomes.

As the Ontario Ministry of Education's chosen learning platform for K-12 schools, the Brightspace platform will be familiar to incoming Queen's students from across the province. This continuity allows for the elimination of time spent adapting to a new platform -- time precious to a new student learning to navigate the higher education landscape.

"We chose Brightspace for myriad reasons: its usability for ease of transition among faculty and staff, its capabilities to support our strategic teaching and learning initiatives and D2L's exceptional support and services to empower us to seamlessly transition from our previous learning management system to the Brightspace integrated learning platform," said Dr. Jill Scott, Vice-Provost Teaching and Learning at Queen's University. "It was also important to us to choose a platform with which a majority of our new students would already be comfortable. Given that Brightspace is widely used by students across Canada and beyond, our selection was not difficult to make."

The University previously used the platform in 2014 in its Business, Education, Engineering and Applied Science Faculties and the School of Nursing before adopting Brightspace campus-wide. Queen's has also chosen to implement D2L Insights™, a powerful data analysis and intelligence engine, and D2L ePortfolio to drive social and informal learning.

"Our partnership with Queen's University is a great example of how the top universities are executing on their strategy and vision for the student learning experience. We are focused on creating a world-leading learning experience with our clients through the adoption of a highly integrated learning platform," said John Baker, President and CEO of D2L. "Brightspace empowers Queen's learners and faculty with tools that make learning perceptive, personalized and pervasive. We look forward to building a strong partnership with Queen's to support the best possible teaching and learning experience for years to come."

The Queen's University user base includes nearly 25,000 full-and-part-time on-campus and distance students and over 3,900 staff and faculty members. The University joins hundreds of other major higher education and K-12 institutions that are currently using the Brightspace platform in Canada.
