QuickLogic Launches Low-Power Sensor Hub for Wearables

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 9, 2014) - QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK)

  • Catalog Sensor Hub enables new fitness & health applications
  • Integrated gesture recognition optimized for wearables use cases

QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the innovator of ultra-low-power programmable Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs), today announced the immediate availability of its S1 Wearables Sensor Hub, an ultra-low-power, context-aware sensor hub optimized for next-generation wearable applications. QuickLogic's complete, out-of-the-box solution speeds time-to-market for OEMs developing next-generation wearable applications, particularly in the health and fitness space.

The S1 Wearables Sensor Hub is the latest Catalog CSSP using the company's ArcticLink® 3 S1 silicon platform, and is extensible to QuickLogic's roadmap of future sensor hub silicon platforms. According to NPD DisplaySearch, a market research firm, the market for wearable devices could be as high as 48 million units in 2014 and 91 million in 2015.

ArcticLink 3 S1 Wearables Turnkey Catalog CSSP Solution Highlights

  • Supported Contexts: Walking, Running, Cycling, In-Vehicle, On-Person, Not-on-Person
  • Supported Gestures: Tap-to-Wake, Rotate-Wrist-to-Wake
  • Supported User Function: Pedometer, including separate step counts for running and walking
  • Operating System Support: Android 4.4 (KitKat) and Thread X Real-Time Operating System (RTOS)
  • Power Consumption: Less than 250 microwatts Active Power

Native support of a variety of popular contexts and gestures provides OEMs with the flexibility to develop smarter, more accurate and more intuitive fitness and health applications for a wide range of activities. Additionally, the S1 Wearables Sensor Hub contains QuickLogic's unique system timing and control implementation to accommodate the low-power architectures of wearable devices. Offloading the real-time, always-on computation to QuickLogic's sensor hub enables reduced overall system power, thus extending battery life.

"The nascent wearables market represents an ideal set of applications for our ultra-low-power, context-aware sensor hub solution. This highly fragmented market is expected to grow rapidly," said Brian Faith, VP of worldwide sales and marketing. "We believe that our S1 Wearables ultra-low-power sensor hub, combined with contextual awareness and gesture recognition, tailored specifically for the wearable market, will enable OEMs to deliver highly differentiated products."
