QuickLogic's VEE Technology Enhances Effective Lumens of Pico Projector Content

VEE Enables Improved Content Viewability Without Increasing Projector Light Source Wattage

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - March 15, 2011) - QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the leader in low power Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs), announced today that its Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE) technology greatly increases the viewability of pico projector content without increasing the projector's light source wattage.

Along with size and cost, the biggest barrier that OEMs face in adopting a pico projector into handheld devices like smartphones and tablets is projected content viewability. The only solution to date has been to increase the projector's light source wattage. However, since pico projectors typically consume more than 1W in the already-taxed power environment of a handheld device, this is simply not possible. QuickLogic's VEE technology, based on the iridix® core from Apical Limited, provides the ideal solution by dynamically adapting projected content to the viewing environment. This solution allows for an increase in effective lumens without an increase in light source wattage.

"According to In-Stat, the pico projector market is expected to reach 2.3 billion units by 2014, including mobile handsets moving from a 15% embed rate to over 90%," said Paul Karazuba, senior product marketing manager at QuickLogic. "VEE presents a unique opportunity to solve a key technical adoption issue for pico projectors and to add greatly to the user experience through increased viewability and effective lumens of projected content. We are currently working with a number of mobile device OEMs and pico projector manufacturers to bring VEE to consumer pico projectors."
