Quin Arts Hosts Brooklyn-Based Artistic Duo ASVP With 'Make Your Own Luck' Exhibition, October 15 - Dec. 1

Elusive Artists to Debut New Series at the Quin Hotel October 15, 2015

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 28, 2015) - While their striking outdoor murals are instantly recognizable, the two artists collectively known as ASVP are not. The Brooklyn-based duo, who met seven years ago when both were working in the advertising industry, eschew the limelight by declining to allow their faces to be captured in photographs. This turn away from traditional commercialism has done nothing to slow their rapidly increasing popularity. It is also a theme echoed in much of their work and one that is extended in their highly anticipated exhibition, titled, "Make Your Own Luck," opening at the Quin hotel in New York City on October 15. Curated by DK Johnston, the exhibit is the latest in the increasingly compelling Quin Arts program, which has featured leading street artists, photographers and painters since its inception nearly two years ago.

ASVP began working as a team in 2008, developing a unique, hand drawn, multi-layered graphic style, often marrying iconic eastern and western imagery with recurring nods to advertising, pop and comic book culture. Their work often included messaging e.g., "We Can Give You What You Want," intermittently revealing the artists' dissent from commercialism and the advertising industry, where they initially met. ASVP's work has been showcased internationally in auction houses and galleries, including Doyle New York's Street Art Auction and Doyle's Annual Contemporary Sale and most recently at the 2015 Art Basel Festival in Switzerland. ASVP has created outdoor murals for locations as diverse as New York City, Wicker Park, Chicago, Basel, Switzerland and Varanasi, India.

Make Your Own Luck will take a closer look at a selection of common objects that have encouraged millions of people to dream and to feel safe to unlock their imaginations. Whether illusory or not, these objects have offered a sense of self-confidence and protection. The Make Your Own Luck series stems directly from a wildly popular previous series of works featuring oversized raffle tickets. The "KEEP THIS COUPON" series was the team's first foray into a deeper look at luck and the seemingly never-ending obsession with succeeding through chance. The new exhibit at the Quin features more than 50 works on paper in addition to a selection of works on canvas.

ASVP commented, "With 'KEEP THIS COUPON' we were examining what felt like a corruption of the childlike sense of hope and wonder, or of dreaming and luck. In our new series for the Quin, we're extending our examination of luck and hope, but I'd say in a more optimistic way -- or at least in way that recognizes that human yearning for a talisman or for protection."

Quin Arts curator DK Johnston added, "ASVP's work projects an energy and artistry that people respond to instantly. What's more, their success makes them uniquely qualified to remind us that the traditional path is not the only path, and we are all capable of making our own luck. This exhibition promises to be one of the most exciting moments to date for the Quin Arts program."

The artist salon featuring ASVP at the Quin, located at 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, is scheduled from 6:00pm - 9:00pm on Thursday, October 15th. The Make Your Own Luck exhibition will be on view to the public in the Quin's lobby through December 1. Information on pre-show sales is available by emailing DKJ@concllc.com. Reservations information and further information on Quin Arts is available at www.thequinhotel.com
