QUMAS Hosts the Most Complete Blog on Pressing Regulatory and Compliance Issues

Experts Share Opinions, Thoughts and Advice on Hot Topics

FLORHAM PARK, NJ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 19, 2006 -- QUMAS, the leading developer of enterprise governance, risk and compliance solutions, today launched the QUMAS blog dedicated to helping senior executives explore new strategies to reduce the regulatory, brand, and legal risks of compliance. The blog is located at, and features leading regulatory and compliance authorities Kevin Ludwick and Patrícia Santos-Serrão, RAC. QUMAS invites the growing number of compliance professionals, analysts, regulatory and legal experts to engage with our Compliance Subject Matter Experts on their frequently provocative online perspectives.

"The QUMAS Blog allows the compliance community to instantly connect and share viewpoints on the constantly evolving compliance landscape," said Christine Washburn, vice president of marketing, QUMAS. "Kevin and Patrícia are recognized voices in their respective industries whose postings give readers a true idea of what's going on in compliance, as well as an opportunity to dissect, analyze and benefit from the shared expertise of the electronic compliance community."

Anticipated blog topics include the current state of business ethics, how U.S. regulations will change as a result of the changes in leadership in Washington, upcoming EU regulations for drug firms and why geopolitical uncertainty should be viewed as a risk management problem.

Kevin Ludwick and his view of compliance for Financial Services firms

Kevin Ludwick brings a wealth of experience to QUMAS, both as a regulator and as head of compliance responsible for designing and implementing compliance strategy. He joined the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in 1999, supervising all major European and Japanese financial institutions in London. Ludwick subsequently ran the Listing Review, and was responsible for negotiating relevant EU Directives and revising the UK Listing Rules in parallel with Sarbanes-Oxley in the U.S. Prior to joining the FSA, Kevin was the head of compliance for Bank of America EMEA, running a compliance function that operated across 11 jurisdictions, and was the former finance and compliance director for Indosuez Capital.

Comments Ludwick, "While it may seem counterintuitive, as a former regulator, I'm in favor of less compliance mandates, not more. Adding more is not the answer."

Patrícia Santos-Serrão and her view of compliance for Life Sciences firms

Patrícia Santos-Serrão is a regulatory advisor in the Life Sciences practice at QUMAS with focus on Clinical and Regulatory Affairs processes. She has been in the Life Sciences industry since 1994, starting her career at Schering-Plough in Kenilworth, NJ, and later joining Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceutical in Ridgefield, CT. With eight years in submissions -- both paper and electronic -- Santos-Serrão has assisted various customers while working at CDC Solutions, Liquent and CSC in compiling eCTDs, and other submission format filings worldwide.

Comments Santos-Serrão, "The review process for an Investigational New Drug (IND) is extremely challenging. Looking at best practices is key to reducing costs and ensuring compliance."
