QuStream Corporation: PESA Expands Cost-Effective Routing Solutions With New Cheetah 128NE, 128XE, and 128WE Frames

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 8, 2005) -

Cheetah 128NE/XE/WE frames are cost-effective solutions built on proven performance of PESA's well-known Cheetah analog and digital routing switchers

QuStream Corporation ("QuStream") (TSX VENTURE:QVC) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary PESA, a leading provider of analog and digital video and audio equipment, today announced the release of the Cheetah 128NE, 128XE, and 128WE routers designed to offer the same combination of functionality and cost and space savings provided by the successful 64 models introduced earlier this year. Also designed to meet the specific requirements of broadcast, studio, and mobile production applications, the Cheetah 128NE/XE/WE frames offer broadcasters even greater routing capacity in new cost-effective configurations.

"The Cheetah 128-frame routing systems feature a small footprint and low power requirements, providing excellent performance for space-constrained broadcast applications requiring versatile control," said Bob McAlpine, senior vice president of sales and marketing at PESA. "Our NE, XE, and new WE designs are intended to give the user just the functionality needed, with a competitive price point to match. These 128-frame versions give broadcasters basic or expandable output options appropriate to their needs, along with the increased capacity necessary to accommodate larger signal volumes."

Designed for broadcasters requiring a reliable system without the need for output options, the Cheetah 128NE offers a 128x128 routing matrix requiring just one power supply of fewer than 600 W to drive the compact 7-RU system. The 128NE also supports PESA's Matrix WatchDog™ redundant crosspoint matrix.

The 11-RU Cheetah 128XE is designed to provide broadcasters the flexibility to select between a 128x128 configuration with output options, or output expansion up to 128x256 without option slots available. As an alternative, the Cheetah 128WE, also in 11 RU, supports a 128x128 configuration with all output options available and support for Matrix WatchDog.

All three of these PESA routing systems use the new 128x128 HD-multirate crosspoint card and therefore, populated with digital cards, support SDI and HD video and data signals - from 3 Mb/s to 1.5 Gb/s with reclocking at both SD (SMPTE 259 m) and HD-SDI (SMPTE 292 m), as well as input EQ to 300 m for SD and 100 m for HD-SDI. Both frame types feature a bypass mode for every individual output to support non-standard data signals.

"The great advantage to our new 128NE/XE/WE systems is their ability to offer fiber and copper in the same frame," continued McAlpine. "The direct delivery of fiber into the router is essential in applications in which data sensitivity and security are paramount, and the systems' accommodation of both fiber and copper in one box is a clear benefit when space, weight, and distance are key considerations."

The 128NE/XE/WE all support dual matrix frame controllers, and Viewport Windows® Diagnostics software and SNMP support are standard. Redundant power supplies, frame controllers, and system controllers enhance the routers' reliability. PESA's full-featured 3500PRO control software provides high-level diagnostics and configuration capabilities typically found only in higher-priced control systems.
