Qwiki Wins TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield Award

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 29, 2010) -  TechCrunch Disrupt Conference -- At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference today, seven finalists competed for the coveted Startup Battlefield Award and a $50,000 cash prize. Qwiki, a disruptive new technology platform that creates an information experience, has been named the winner.

"Qwiki has been a dream of mine for years now and launching at TechCrunch Disrupt has been such an incredible opportunity for our team," said Doug Imbruce, CEO of Qwiki. "It's such an honor to win this award at an event like Disrupt, surrounded by the most important leaders and innovators in the technology industry. We're thrilled that the attendees, partners and judges all recognize the potential of Qwiki's technology."

On Monday, Qwiki gave conference attendees a preview of their groundbreaking technology platform that creates an "information experience" in response to user queries, by combining on-the-fly infographics, video, narration and interactive elements. The presentation marked the launch of the alpha version of their product; users can now visit http://www.Qwiki.com or follow @Qwiki to receive an invitation. Qwiki presented again on Wednesday to a new panel of judges, including Marissa Mayer, VP of search product and user experience at Google, alongside finalists CloudFlare, Opzi, Badgeville, DataSift, Pinger and GameCrunch. Upon winning, Qwiki received the Disrupt Cup from Soluto, the past winner.

"Showcasing our technology at TechCrunch Disrupt has been such a rewarding experience and we look forward to hearing feedback on how to make Qwiki even better," said Dr. Louis Monier, co-founder and CTO of Qwiki. "We know that we've developed a game-changing technology platform and receiving this award today really confirms that. Now, we can focus on expanding its application to truly change the way people discover and consume information."
