R. Nyahay Joins Gastem Management Team

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 7, 2008) - Gastem (TSX VENTURE:GMR) is pleased to announce that Richard Nyahay has joined Gastem USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gastem, as Manager of Geology for New York State. Mr. Nyahay's initial undertaking will be the development of Gastem's New York gas exploration program and will be looking at a number of possible growth opportunities.

Mr. Nyahay received his BA in Geology from SUNY College, Plattsburgh in 1982 and has more than 20 years of experience with the New York State Oil and Gas office. He has co-authored 18 individual papers with the majority focusing on Ordovician and Devonian era rock in New York State.

"We are pleased to welcome a well known authority on New York subsurface stratigraphy to our team", said Raymond Savoie, Gastem's Chairman and CEO. "The addition of Mr. Nyahay is an integral step in the company's strategy to establish a production unit in New York State and in developing Gastem's activities in this State and throughout the Appalachian Region."

Phase I of the drilling program for the New York properties is expected to commence once the necessary permitting has been obtained. Gastem will focus on the recovery of core and the application of advanced stimulation techniques. Targets will also be tested for potential gas production. Pipelines and related infrastructures are within close proximity.

Gastem is an independent oil and gas exploration company based in Montreal. The company holds exploration and storage rights to over 1.1M acres of land in the St. Lawrence Lowlands and the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec. Gastem USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gastem and has an option to acquire a 65% interest in properties situated in New York State and has revenues from a minority participation in the Amber Bank shale gas project in West Virginia. Other development projects are being evaluated.
