Radio Programming in Northern Saskatchewan Supported

LA RONGE, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - June 8, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing $380,815 in funding for the year 2015-2016 to the Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation to support the production and broadcast of up to 168 hours of radio programming per week. This will include 20 hours per week of new original content in Aboriginal languages.

Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament (Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River), made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Quick Facts

• The radio programming will be offered in English, Cree and Dene and cover current events, local and national news. It will also include weather forecasts, sports community announcements, interviews and music.
• The broadcasts are expected to be heard in 60 communities, reaching about 105,000 listeners.
• The funding is being provided through the Northern Aboriginal Broadcasting funding element of the Aboriginal Peoples' Program.
