RAE Systems Posts Informational Resources to Support Japan Response Effort

New Website Content Provides Resources, Detection Facts and Background on Risks From Radiation and Toxic-Gas Exposure

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 19, 2011) - RAE Systems Inc. (NYSE Amex: RAE) today announced updates to its main website to provide useful resources and radiation-detection information to help the people of Japan and international responders involved in the recovery and cleanup effort. The new information can be found at and in Japanese at

Informational Resources
Launched on April 8, RAE Systems' updated website includes educational background on radiation and its detection, references to up-to-date information on the Japan situation and content to assist in the following areas:

"Utilizing our expertise in worker safety through hazardous-material detection and monitoring, RAE Systems has compiled resources to help first responders and others involved in the Japan response effort," said Thomas Nègre, vice president of marketing for RAE Systems. "In addition, we have mobilized our company resources, including establishing a 24/7 detection hotline and shifting our manufacturing lines to meet the increased detection needs in Japan."

Keeping Responders Safe
First responders, including firefighters, police and emergency medical personnel, along with Japan's government agency workers and Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) personnel, are critical to the Japan response effort. Keeping responders safe from high concentrations or cumulative radiation and potentially hazardous gases left in the wake of the tsunami requires specialized gas- and radiation-detection equipment.

At the same time, many people are in transit around Japan, such as truck drivers who are delivering water, food and fuel supplies to damaged areas of the country. Journalists and aid workers also are moving around the country, along with government representatives. Personal radiation meters that track the amount of radiation individuals receive over time can help keep people safe as they move in and out of areas with elevated radiation levels.

Many businesses are impacted, too. Japanese food producers and exporters for many of the country's products are looking to reassure customers that their products are safe for Japanese consumers and for Japan's major export markets in Hong Kong, China and the U.S. Worker safety is a key concern for many businesses.

And as the country begins one of the biggest cleanup and reconstruction efforts of our time, the risks to workers at utility companies, in addition to road, rail infrastructure and construction crews, remains high. As organic materials, such trees and plants, buried in mud breakdown over time, potentially dangerous levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can be present. These gases and vapors can be stirred up and become airborne during cleanup operations, especially where heavy equipment is used to remove debris.

Supporting the Japan Response
The updated website for Japan responders is one of several measures taken by the company to support the people of Japan and the international responders who are helping in the response effort. RAE Systems' has ramped production of its radiation-detection products, including its latest DoseRAE 2 personal dosimeter, and has committed to allocate its radiation-detection products to Japan for the near future. Additionally, the company provides a 24/7 detection hotline (+1-408-952-8200 ext. 8) to handle radiation-detection questions and sensor replacements.

Radiation and Hazardous-Gas Detection
As part of its updated website content, RAE Systems' recommends key detection solutions to help protect people and equipment involved in the Japan response effort. These include:
