RAID Incorporated Introduces SATA RAID Storage Arrays From Promise Technology

LAWRENCE, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 13, 2005 -- Storage solution and managed storage service provider RAID Incorporated today announced that it is introducing a new line of 3Gb per second (3Gb/s) Serial ATA (SATA) RAID storage systems from Promise Technology, Inc. The ORION™ (http://www.raidinc.com/orion.php) line offers advanced data protection to deliver a cost-effective, high-availability enterprise level Storage Area Network (SAN) solution.

Each building block offers dual host 2Gb Fibre Channel (FC2) ports and 12 or 15 hot-swappable drive bays in a rackmount chassis, supporting up to 6 terabytes (TB) with 15 drives. All models launching today offer SATA II features, including 3Gb/s speed, Native Command Queuing (NCQ), staggered spin-up, and drive hot-swap support. Available on the latest SATA-2 drives, NCQ increases I/O performance by intelligently reordering data requests so that data can be accessed more quickly.

"ORION is an exciting product line that can be implemented in traditional mid-tier application uses with base system configurations which can scale to enterprise-class solutions requiring higher performance and superior data redundancy," stated Marc DiZoglio, Vice President of Sales at RAID. "We feel that large ORION implementations will re-define enterprise storage cost points where Fibre class disk systems can no longer compete in terms of performance and design. ORION systems can deliver the best ROI and redundancy while providing very high performance and can be coupled with our Managed Service, StorageWatch®," continued DiZoglio.

"Promise congratulates RAID Inc on its launch of the SATA 3Gb ORION line," said Sam Sirisena, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Advanced Storage Group at Promise Technology, Inc. "Combining the pioneering SATA RAID storage technology from Promise with RAID Inc's 24x7 storage management, integration, and solutions capabilities spells success for customers looking for cost-effective, highly dependable external storage solutions."

The RAID ORION line provides a host of sophisticated RAID array features including multiple logical drive support, online capacity expansion and RAID level migration, non-volatile error logging and enhanced SMART support.

Features shared by the ORION line include:

HARDWARE

-- Dual-port, SATA 3Gb/s RAID controllers
-- Intel® I/O processor based on Intel XScale® technology
-- Redundant power supplies and cooling blowers for high availability
-- ECC cache memory, with battery backup to protect cached data

FIRMWARE
-- Support for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50
-- LUN masking, mapping and carving enables storage resource sharing
    among heterogeneous operating systems
