RainStor Database Technology Embedded Within HP Investigation Solution

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 19, 2011) - RainStor, an infrastructure software company offering specialized database technology for online data retention and retrieval solutions, today announced it is cooperating with HP to enhance the range of database technologies embedded within the HP Investigation solution. As a result of this announcement, the RainStor database can be sold, distributed and supported by HP as a part of the HP Investigation solution, which is designed to help telecom companies and law enforcement agencies fight terrorism and organized crime.

To improve law enforcement's investigative capabilities, data retention systems can be required to store communications data for many years. With the increase in subscribers around the world and rapid growth in smart phone usage -- for voice, messages, email and now transactions -- the volume of data has become unwieldy. Added to this fact is growth in the use of communication devices in the criminal world -- terrorist acts, money laundering and child exploitation. Intelligence support systems exist today because the law requires a new level of sophistication to fight crime.

In order to support lawful intercept requests, retained communication records need to be available online in an immutable and tamper-proof form. RainStor delivers these capabilities while compressing data by a factor of up to 40:1, significantly impacting the overall hardware requirements and storage footprint. Additionally, CSPs need the ability to auto-purge records that no longer need to be retained based on expiry policies and regulatory timeframes. RainStor's specialized data retention solution is integrated with the HP Data Retention and Guardian Online (HP DRAGON) solution for the purpose of reducing the overall cost with specialized data de-duplication while providing full query access and remaining fully compliant with industry regulations.

Availability
RainStor and HP have completed integration tests successfully and are jointly taking the solution to market. HP Investigation with the RainStor database embedded is generally available and is being distributed worldwide through the HP Communications and Media Solutions business unit.
