Rainy River to Drill High Grade Ore Shoots in #17 Gold Zone and Several Newly Identified High Priority Gold Targets

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 19, 2005) - Rainy River Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:RR) -

- Re-logging of existing drill core completed and extensive GIS database developed

- Down plunge direction of high grade ore shoots in #17 Zone to be tested

- High priority targets identified by RC program, including 7.00 g/t gold bedrock intersection to be tested

- Untested IP anomalies in vicinity of #17 and 433 Zones to be tested

Nelson W. Baker, President of Rainy River Resources Ltd. is pleased to announce that a Phase One diamond drill program is scheduled to begin on September 21st on the Rainy River Property ("the Property"). The program will test a number of high priority targets developed from the recently completed phase of work, which included an 84-hole Reverse Circulation ("RC") drill program, re-logging and in-fill sampling of existing diamond drill core, and the development of a GIS database. The Rainy River Property is located in Richardson Township, 25 kilometres northwest of Emo, Ontario.

Drilling on the #17 Gold Zone will test the extension of the mineralized zone which is open to the east and may be offset by faulting. In addition, drilling will test the interpreted down plunge direction of high grade gold mineralization within the #17 Zone. Recent work by Rainy River Resources has identified a southwest plunge direction that may provide a structural control to the higher grade shoots; this direction has not been targeted by previous exploration. Previous drill intercepts in the #17 Gold Zone include 5.1 grams gold / 62.57 metres (0.18 opt gold / 205 feet) cut by Nuinsco in drill hole NR96-45.

As reported in a previous news release dated 9th September 2005, at least two new high priority gold targets have been identified by the recent RC till sampling program. The most interesting target lies between the 17 and 433 Gold Zones. A cluster of closely-spaced RC drill holes has recorded a substantial "cut-off" in pristine gold grain counts with one hole, RC05-57, returning a remarkable gold value of 7.00 grams per tonne from a 1.7 metre bedrock sample. This represents the highest grade bedrock sample ever assayed by Overburden Drilling Management Limited from over 700 holes drilled in the Rainy River project since 1994. It is believed that this bedrock sample potentially represents a third "blind" bedrock gold discovery within the 600 hectare Caldera Structure.

In addition, several other promising new gold targets have emerged from on-going application of the integrated GIS database developed for the project area, which incorporated over $11 million of data. Targets to be tested in this phase of drilling include two IP chargeability anomalies in the vicinity of the #17 and 433 Zones, neither of which have been tested by previous drilling.
