Rainy River Intersects 69.95 Metres Grading 2.21 Grams Per Tonne Gold in Down-Plunge Extension of #17 Zone

Highlights:

- Hole #5 (NR05-05) intersects 98.50 metres grading 1.81 g/t Au including 69.95 metres grading 2.21 g/t Au and 13.50 metres grading 5.34 g/t Au

- Hole #6 (NR05-06) intersects 113.36 metres grading 1.23 g/t Au including 6.00 metres grading 4.51 g/t Au

- #17 Zone remains wide open at depth

- Holes #1 (NR05-01) to Holes #4 (NR05-04) tested a new gold zone recently identified by reverse circulation drilling between #17 Zone and #433 Zone and results are pending.

Nelson W. Baker, President of Rainy River Resources Ltd. is pleased to report that the first two recently completed diamond drill holes, designed to test for down plunge extensions of enriched polymetallic zones contained within the #17 Zone, have intersected gold and silver mineralization over significant widths.

Hole #5 intersected a 13.50 metre interval which graded 5.34 g/t Au and 7.9 g/t Ag (from 138.50 to 152.00 metres), and a 1.50 metre interval grading 23.10 g/t Au and 49.1 g/t Ag. This intersection was contained within a broader interval grading 2.21 g/t Au and 2.5 g/t Ag over a core length of 69.95 metres (from 138.50 to 208.45 metres).

Hole #6 intersected 8.20 metres grading 3.86 g/t Au and 7.5 g/t Ag (from 206.80 to 215.00 metres) contained within a broad gold zone grading 1.23 g/t Au and 1.8 g/t Ag over 113.36 metres (from 159.88 to 273.24 metres). Significant base metal mineralization, particularly zinc, accompanies the gold and silver mineralization and is listed in Table 1.

Two east-west trending holes, NR96-45 and NR96-48, previously drilled by Nuinsco, tested the down plunge extension of the two highest grade intercepts in the #17 Zone. Hole NR96-45 intersected an 8.88-metre high grade core intersection from 107.85 to 116.73 metres grading 19.31 g/t Au, 12.31 g/t Ag, 0.03% Cu, 0.06% Pb and 0.67% Zn. A second Nuinsco hole, NR96-48, intersected a 5.2-metre core length of high grade mineralization from 130.26 to 135.46 metres grading 13.92 g/t Au, 5.4 g/t Ag and 0.23% Zn.

Nelson Baker states that, "This drilling confirms the down plunge extensions of the #17 Zone and that the contained high grade zones remain wide open at depth and not previously drill tested. An aggressive drill program is being planned to fully delineate the #17 Zone, and to test the down plunge extensions of the higher grades zones."

The #17 Zone is a westerly-trending, stratabound, felsic volcanic-hosted, pyritic schist deposit, delineated by drilling over a strike length of one kilometre and partially defined to a maximum depth of 240 metres. Gold mineralization differs from most Archean gold deposits in that it is accompanied by polymetallic sulphides. The metal signature of Au-Ag-Zn and minor Cu is characteristic of, and most closely resembles, the volcanic-associated massive sulphide environment to the Bousquet Mining Camp in Abitibi, Quebec.

Rainy River has implemented the following quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures for the Rainy River Project drill program:

Core was logged then sawed in half, with one side bagged and labeled; the remaining half was placed in core boxes for a permanent record and stored on site. All samples were transported to ALS Chemex Laboratories Ltd. facility at Thunder Bay, ON for crushing and pulverization, with pulps then sent to the Vancouver, BC lab for analysis. All samples sent for analyses were prepared using a jaw crusher, which was cleaned with compressed air between samples. A 250-gram split of the crushed sample with 70% passing through a 10 mesh screen was pulverized with 85% passing through a 200 mesh screen. Fire assays were performed using 30-grams of sample with assays equal to or greater than 10 g/t calculated gravimetrically, and lower-grade samples measured by atomic absorption. Assays greater than 100 g/t were re-analyzed by fire assay using 50-grams of sample and measured gravimetrically. Multi-element analyses were performed using 1-gram of sample digested in aqua regia and analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission (ICPAES). Blanks and Standards (one high grade and one low grade) were inserted sequentially at least every 20th sample into the drill core samples before shipment. All the blanks returned no significant gold values. Standards displayed standard deviations of less than 0.16 g/t and geometric means of +/- 1% of the known grade.

Core sample size varied from 0.5 to 2.0 metres with an average sample size of 1.14 metres. Quality control was monitored using a high grade (5.911 g/t) and low grade (1.315 g/t) gold standard from Rocklabs Ltd. as well as a locally sourced crushed blank.
