Rainy River Intersects High Grade Gold Zone Under ODM Zone Grading 81.52 g/t Au Over 9.0 Metres and ODM Zone Returns 13.5 Metres Grading 18.68 g/t Au

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 4, 2006) - Nelson W. Baker, President of Rainy River Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:RR), is pleased to announce assay results from an additional eight holes recently drilled along its 3 kilometre long gold horizon. Three of the eight holes, NR06-118, NR06-113 and NR06-114, were drilled into the central part of the 17 Zone designed to complete the Company's resource database. The remaining five holes, NR06-109, NR06-112, NR06-115, NR06-117 and NR06-119, targeted the recently discovered ODM Zone along strike and down plunge. The summary of all gold intervals is listed in Table 1 below and the detail intervals have been posted on our website www.rainyriverresources.com. Of significance, hole NR06-119, was successful in intersecting an impressive interval of 9.0 metres grading 81.52 g/t Au (uncut) true width or 23.92 g/t Au (cut to 4 opt) approximately 100 metres stratigraphically below the ODM Zone. No other holes released for the ODM Zone to date in previous releases and including the holes detailed below were considered to be deep enough to test this new gold horizon. As in the ODM Zone, visible gold was noted within this section.

Equally impressive was the intersection in NR06-117 consisting of 13.5 metres grading 18.68 g/t Au (uncut) true width or 16.55 g/t Au (cut to 4 opt) recorded in hole NR06-117 confirming the continued strong gold values in the ODM Zone. This intersection is approximately 30 metres west and at the same level (-300 m) as the intersection of 23.5 metres grading 10.63 g/t Au in hole NR06-111 previously released on November 8, 2006. The 4 opt cutting factor was chosen because values of 4 to 6 opt but seldom higher than 6 opt are regularly encountered in visible gold bearing sections of the ODM Zone.

The 100%-owned Rainy River Project is located 80 kilometers south of Kenora, Ontario in a region of low political risk, low exploration costs and excellent infrastructure. The location plan for all of the holes drilled by the Company in the 17 Zone and the ODM Zone has been posted on the Company's website and longitudinal and cross sections are expected to be available shortly. Three drill rigs continue focus in the ODM Zone area and along the 3 kilometre long gold trend.

Quality Control

Rainy River has implemented the following quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures for the Rainy River Project drill program:

Core was logged then sawed in half, with one side bagged and labeled; the remaining half was placed in core boxes for a permanent record and stored on site. All samples were transported to ALS Chemex Laboratories Ltd. facility at Thunder Bay, ON for crushing and pulverization, with pulps then sent to Vancouver, BC labs for analysis. All samples sent for analyses were prepared using a jaw crusher, which was cleaned with compressed air between samples. A 250-gram split of the crushed sample with 70% passing through a 10 mesh screen was pulverized with 85% passing through a 200 mesh screen. Fire assays were performed using 30-grams of sample with assays equal to or greater than 10 g/t calculated gravimetrically, and lower-grade samples measured by atomic absorption. Assays greater than 100 g/t were re-analyzed by fire assay using 50-grams of sample and measured gravimetrically. Multi-element analyses were performed using 1-gram of sample digested in aqua regia and analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission (ICPAES). Blanks and Standards (one high grade and one low grade) were inserted sequentially at least every 20th sample into the drill core samples before shipment. All the blanks returned no significant gold values. Standards displayed standard deviations of less than 0.16 g/t Au and geometric means of +/- 1% of the known grade.

Core sample size varied from 0.5 to 2.0 metres with an average sample size of 1.14 metres. Quality control was monitored using a high grade (5.911 g/t Au) and low grade (1.315 g/t Au) gold standard from Rocklabs Ltd. as well as a locally sourced crushed blank.

Mr. Baker, PEng, is the qualified person for the Rainy River project and the person responsible for the contents this release.

Nelson W. Baker, President
