Rainy River to Test New Gold-Bearing Base Metal Target Discovered in Off Lake Area, 23 Kilometres Northeast of Richardson Township

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 22, 2007) - Nelson W. Baker, President of Rainy River Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:RR) is pleased to announce the start of exploratory diamond drilling on the Company's Off Lake Property located approximately 23 kilometers northeast of the six square kilometre "gold-in-bedrock" anomaly in Richardson Township that hosts the Bousquet-style polymetallic mineralization. Meanwhile, drilling keeps apace on the Company's signature project in Richardson township.

Recent mapping in the area by Dr. Lorne Ayres indicates that the felsic volcaniclastic sequence that hosts the Richardson Township gold mineralization can be traced northeastward to the Off Lake area. Dr. Ayers has mapped a sub-volcanic pluton which is nine kilometres long and four kilometres wide that hosts widespread Au-Zn-Pb-Ag mineralization. Approximately eight drill holes totaling 1000 metres are planned to test a strong EM conductor in the Pinewood Lake area as well as a number of new surface showings uncovered and sampled by Rainy's prospecting team last summer.

In July 2005, Rainy River entered into the Off Lake Property option agreement with Stares Contracting Corporation of Thunder Bay, Ontario to earn a 100% interest in three unpatented mining claims in Senn and Fleming Townships. Prospecting on this claim group in 2005 returned grab sample assays up to 11% Zn, 4.3% Cu, 4372 g/t Ag and 10.3 g/t Au.

In 1995, Nuinsco Resources Limited diamond drilled two holes near the northeast end of Off Lake coincident with Rainy River's Off Lake Property option. One hole intersected two separate intervals of significant polymetallic mineralization which included 1.6 metres grading 4.5 g/t Au and 27 g/t Ag followed by 0.5 metres of 3.9 g/t Au and 22 g/t Ag further down hole.

Nelson Baker commented, "Compared to other greenstone belts in the Superior Province, the Rainy River area including the Off Lake area has been under explored for its gold and base metal potential. Even more encouraging is the fact that the geochemistry of the felsic volcanics in the Off Lake area show similarities to the polymetallic mineralization associated with the 17 Gold Trend centered in Richardson Township."

Mr. Baker, P.Eng., is the qualified person for the Rainy River Project and the person responsible for the contents of this release.

Rainy River, a well funded company with approximately $8 million in the treasury and no debt, is focused on advancing its gold and base metal projects in northwestern Ontario.
