Rare Wines to Be Featured at Appleby College's Fine Wine Auction

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - More than $300,000 worth of fine and rare wines has been acquired for Appleby College's fifth biennial Fine Wine Auction on Thursday, May 7, 2009. These include a 1989 Chateau Petrus, given a 100-point rating by the Wine Spectator, and a 1985 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tache from the most famous wine estate in all of Burgundy.

You don't have to be a wine enthusiast to enjoy the evening. Appleby's Schlesinger Dining Hall will be decked out in fun and classy décor, with various gourmet food stations that serve as ideal pairings for any wine, including finely sliced prosciutto, decadent cheeses and melt-in-your-mouth steak. It will be a relaxed atmosphere for wine and food lovers to mingle.

The standing dinner reception begins at 6:30 p.m. The live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a silent auction will be ongoing throughout the evening. Though most auction items will be sought-after wines, there will be non-wine items up for bid, such as a trip to Napa Valley, the heart of California wine; and a five-night stay to Fairmont St. Andrews Resort in Scotland for an outstanding golf excursion. Not only is airfare included, but the successful bidder will also play three incredible courses.

An exciting addition to this year's event is a VIP sommelier-led rare wine tasting starting at 6:00 p.m. that will highlight a collection of outstanding wines from the 1989 vintage.

Tickets to the Fine Wine Auction cost $100 and a limited number of VIP tickets for the rare wine tasting are still available for an additional cost of $50. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Contact Melina Crosby at 905-845-4681, ext. 220 with any questions regarding the Fine Wine Auction.
