Ratio Interactive Showcases the Imagination and Innovation of Apps Delivered by Windows 8 at Pre-Launch Party

Digital Agency Announces Winners of Its Windows 8 Design Contest and $10,000 in Prize Money, Demonstrating the Opportunities in App Design and Development With Windows 8

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Oct 8, 2012) - Just weeks away from the launch of Windows 8, scheduled for October 26th, (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/apps), Ratio Interactive (www.ratiointeractive.com), a digital agency that partners with clients to create meaningful experiences on multiple platforms, today announced the winners of its Windows 8 Design Contest.

Ratio created the contest this summer to inspire the creation of beautiful, interactive Windows 8 app designs, attracting entries from designers and developers from around the world. With current Industry estimates showing that Windows 8 will release to about 650 million devices within the first 12 months, Ratio believes this is a significant market opportunity that cannot be ignored. Entries were evaluated on concept, user experience, visual design and the use of unique features in Windows 8, including Splash Pages, Hub View, Live Tiles and Semantic Zoom.

The three winning designs included:

  • First Place and $5,000 to Kenneth Disbennett for "Woodland Park Zoo," which showcased an excellent usage of typography, colors and full bleed imagery.

  • Second Place and $2,500 to Minna Jyvala for "Bloom," which showcased an innovative way of selecting plants and planning your garden through a faux 3D representation.

  • Third Place and $2,500 to Valentina Ferrari for "WalkSeattle," which showcased imagery masked in a fun way together with a great implementation of Semantic Zoom.
