RBC Decathlon Turns Athletic Fundraiser Into Top Wall Street Networking Event

Annual Event Has Become Coveted Breeding Ground to Recruit Top Talent and Cultivate Clients as Athletic Fundraiser Boosts Camaraderie

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Apr 1, 2014) - RBC Capital Markets' annual Decathlon to benefit pediatric cancer research and treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has earned accolades for its fundraising success -- $3.5 million since inception -- and innovative format, but its greatest value on Wall Street is the handshake.

"I'm proud to come together with my colleagues across the industry to support this important cause for the third consecutive year. Our business is centered around building relationships, and The RBC Decathlon is a great example of a fundraising event that successfully brings together a variety of key players in the financial services arena," said Michael Bissmeyer, Director, RBS Short-Term Markets Sales.

To curate the field, which is limited to 150 individuals and teams, the event's creators enforce fundraising minimums. "At its core, The RBC Decathlon is a fundraiser," notes co-founder, Marc Hodulich. "The fundraising component has created a real sense of community which has become more important in recent years as the financial services industry has changed. Participants not only represent their own firm, but 'Team Decathlon' as Wall Street comes together to fight pediatric cancer."

Recruiting and retaining top talent is the foundation to every successful business and in the high-stakes worlds of investment banking, private equity, and securities trading, it is ever-more paramount, "Some skills are easily measureable, but things like work ethic, personality, and perseverance are difficult to measure by traditional means. The RBC Decathlon is something that helps us do just that," notes Vito Sperduto, Head of U.S. M&A at RBC Capital Markets. "You can learn a lot about someone by their efforts in fundraising and training for The RBC Decathlon."

"After we competed and won the team title, it brought attention to everyone on the team and to our firm" notes Greg Feldman, a Regional Manager at Jersey City, NJ-based money manager, Lord Abbett & Co., who took home the Team Title in 2013. "Colleagues from different departments got to know us a little better after we represented our firm for such a good cause. Now, there's a heightened sense of pride and anticipation firm-wide as we look to surpass last year's fundraising tally and keep the team trophy for another year."

The RBC Decathlon benefiting Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center will take place Sunday, June 22nd at St John's University's DaSilva Memorial Field. To participate, visit www.TheDecathlon.org
