Thai Tennis Organization in America (TTOA) & India International School (IIS) Host Annual Event; India Village at the Festival Will Celebrate & Explore the Diverse Indian Cultures

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - June 17, 2009) - RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of all-digital and high definition video, high-speed internet, and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers, as well as high-capacity transport services to carrier and large enterprise customers, announced that it is the exclusive cable and telecommunications sponsor of the Sixth Annual Asian Food & Tennis Festival.

The event, organized by the Thai Tennis Organization in America (TTOA) in association with India International School (IIS) in Chantilly, VA, will be held at the Lake Newport Tennis Facility in Reston, VA on Saturday, August 1st, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, August 2nd from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This festival is a two-day free admission event to promote a greater understanding of Asian-Americans and their cultures.

"Each year, the festival showcases the culture of a particular Asian country and this year, it is India. This year, we celebrate and explore the diverse Indian cultures by bringing India's authentic regional foods, arts, crafts and entertainments," said Usha Chaudhary, a board member of the IIS responsible for negotiating the sponsorship with RCN. "We're pleased to welcome RCN as the exclusive cable and telecommunications sponsor of both the festival and the India Village."

Throughout history, India has mesmerized people from all over the world with her wealth -- material, intellectual, and spiritual. The largest democracy in the world, India is one of the largest trading partners of the United States. Her products, foods, clothes, songs, jewelry, films, and rhythmic dances are catching on everywhere, especially in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

"The India Village at the festival is coordinated by India International School (IIS), and will showcase arts, crafts, and costumes from all regions of India, as well as food delicacies from east, west, north, and south India," said IIS President Dhanjaya Kumar.

The Indian Village Stage will present classical and folk dances; classical and fusion music; yoga; magic; and, of course the ever popular Bollywood dances. IIS is collaborating with a number of artists and organizations to showcase the true spirit of India -- unity in diversity.

"RCN is committed to being actively involved with local Asian community organizations and events, like The Asian Food and Tennis Festival," said RCN's Strategic External Affairs, Programming and International Marketing Senior Vice President Richard Ramlall. "Currently we offer 19 different channels in Asian languages such as Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Tagalog, Chinese and Hindi. Our Global Passport tier offers 500 International cable television choices, including 82 linear channels, covering 14 different language groups, surpassing many other industry offerings today."

As exclusive sponsor, RCN will receive promotional signage, booth and advertising benefits. In addition to a cash donation, RCN is creating and will run cross channel public service spots to promote the festival.

"Our goal is to both promote the festival and encourage a great turn out for this exciting event. We will be running these public service announcements 200 times prior to the festival," said RCN Marketing Director Stephanie Bailey. "RCN will also promote the Asian Festival on our community bulletin boards on Channel 8."
