Re-appointment of Mr. Paul Kennedy as Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 12, 2008) - The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety, today issued the following statement announcing the re-appointment of Mr. Paul Kennedy as Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC) to an additional term expiring December 31, 2009.

"As the Government of Canada continues its work to ensure that the RCMP is a stronger, more accountable organization, Mr. Kennedy's strong leadership will be a vital part of that process. Since his appointment in October 2005 as Chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP, Mr. Kennedy has consistently demonstrated his commitment to achieving excellence in policing through enhanced accountability for the RCMP."

The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP is an independent federal agency established in 1988 to review public complaints about the conduct of RCMP members in a fair and impartial manner.
