Real MCs Please Stand Up -- Eminem Launches Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile

Freestyle Battle of Sight and Sound Begins National Tour June 21 in New York

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 17, 2010) -  Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile is a freestyle rap battle of sight and sound, curated and directed by Eminem. The national battle series features the rawest lyricists competing for the honor of being named the illest freestyle MC in the country. This invitation-only competition has a unique format that challenges MCs to bring the true freestyle spirit back. Building upon the traditional head-to-head battle by adding an innovative twist, MCs will be tested on the sickest flows they can create on the spot based on spontaneous cues -- making it not only a battle against each other but also against the clock and the mind's eye. Qualifying battles will be judged by a variety of industry heavyweights including Just Blaze, Alchemist and Craig G. The ultimate winner of the national championship will be determined by Eminem.

"I'm looking for somebody to stand out, to be unique and to say the sickest, most ridiculous, most retarded s#%! you can say, something that makes somebody want to quit," explained Eminem.

Three distinct rounds of battle will challenge MCs to be nimble, sharp and witty while dominating the stage. In round one, MCs will showcase their best flows over beats. In round two, their freestyle skills will be further challenged as they rap about themes that are texted to a screen by judges and the live audience. The third and final round is a head-to-head, acapella, take no prisoners battle-to-the-end. Lyrical prowess during these rounds will advance the most skilled MC to the national finals in Detroit where the gloves come off.

Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile begins in New York and will travel through San Francisco (July 16), Philadelphia (July 20), Orlando (July 29), Atlanta (August 3), Greensboro (August 5), Houston (August 12), before ending in Detroit on August 26 at the legendary St. Andrews Hall. The MC left standing walks away with bragging rights and an opportunity to record with a headlining producer at Red Bull Studios.

Eminem's seventh major label studio album, Recovery includes the single "Not Afraid," which debuted #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April (his third career #1 single). The album also features guest appearances by Lil Wayne ('No Love'), Rihanna ('Love the Way You Lie') and P!NK ('Won't Back down'). For Eminem, the biggest selling artist of the 2000s, Recovery kicks off the 2010s by following last year's Relapse, the #1-charting winner of the Best Rap Album Grammy and the best selling rap album of 2009. Eminem has sold more than 80,000,000 albums worldwide and won 11 Grammy Awards.
