'Real Weddings' Contest Featuring Eight Couples Launching This Week

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2011) - If you're planning a wedding or have a passion for reality shows, weddings or the emotional rollercoaster that goes with planning a wedding, SanDiego.com is launching "Real Weddings in San Diego" this week to delight audiences by watching a group of engaged couples charm their way to win San Diegans' hearts and votes.

The contest will follow eight couples as they battle for prizes and wedding services to help plan their big day. The online audience will be able to read daily blogs written by each couple on SanDiego.com, participate with their comments, view photos and watch videos of the contestants during the six-week process, then the audience will vote for the couple they believe is most deserving of the grand prize.

"We'll be providing detailed glimpses into real-life weddings and all of the planning and preparation that goes into them," said Hannah Martine, associate editor at SanDiego.com, sponsor of the contest. "They all have a magical element to them and pairing that with the story behind the wedding will give viewers an opportunity to see all of the hard work, time and commitment that goes into planning the perfect wedding."

"All of the couples are unique and no one wedding will be the same," continued Martine. "One couple is planning a San Diego-themed wedding complete with a mini beach boardwalk and guest tables named after famous San Diego attractions."

Several of the couples are San Diego transplants and others were born and raised in San Diego. Although they come from different areas around the country, they share one thing in common -- their love for San Diego.

Three of the eight couples are planning destination weddings, traveling hundreds of miles to reconnect with family and friends. One couple from Seattle, who met online 10 years ago while playing a video game, will be married at Admiral Baker Clubhouse while another from Colorado will walk down the aisle at the Point Loma Naval Submarine Base.

Viewers will follow each finalist couple for approximately four weeks as they plan different stages of their weddings. A preliminary round of voting will take place on May 2 and the finalists will be announced on May 3. Voting for the grand prize winner will begin on May 4 and the winner will be announced on May 27.
