Rebuilding homes gives hope to Peterborough flood victims

Central Ontario Community Builders brings building trades volunteers to help repair damaged homes Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 9, 2005) - The Central Ontario Community Builders, a non-profit organization created by the Central Ontario Building Trades launched today a building drive to repair 12 area homes damaged by the floods of July 2004.

"Central Ontario Community Builders represents construction workers from various trades who have come together to help communities in need," said John Smith, Central Ontario Building Trades representative. "We are proud that building trades personnel from a variety of unions are donating their time to help rebuild these homes."

Jodi Greenwood, one of the people whose house is being restored said, "the Central Ontario Community Builders have already given so much and are the ones who are helping to make a difference in my life."

"I would like to thank the Central Ontario Community Builders for coming to Peterborough and helping our community," said Jeff Leal, local Member of Provincial Parliament. "This is a great example of organized labour coming together in a common cause that helps people in need."

Local companies and unions are also donating money and materials to aid in the reconstruction efforts. Among the unions and companies donating money and or materials are: International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 894, Construction Council of Ontario, United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 463, Carpenters and Allied Workers Local 397, RONA Cashway, Sears and Moroneys Better Carpet Company.
