Record-Breaking $2 Million Dollars Raised for Children With Special Needs

38th Annual CKNW Orphans' Fund Pledge Day Broadcast Live From Terminal City Club Vancouver

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - December 03, 2015) - Yesterday the CKNW Orphans' Fund raised over $2 million dollars for children in need in British Columbia. The 38th Annual CKNW Orphans' Fund Pledge Day was broadcast live on News Talk 980 CKNW and aired on Global BC at the Terminal City Club. This day, created with the goal to raise funds for children with special needs, raised a record-breaking amount in donations from our loyal CKNW audience and very generous public.

Hosted by CKNW, Rock 101 and Global BC personalities, Pledge Day featured interviews with philanthropists, business leaders, media personalities and most importantly the children and families helped by the CKNW Orphans' Fund.

Chairman-of-the-Board and volunteer, The Honourable Wally Oppal, Q.C, says, "It is a privilege for me to be involved with an organization with such heart. For 70 years, the CKNW Orphans' Fund has had the opportunity to brighten children's lives in BC and we are thrilled about the support that British Columbians provided on Pledge Day. The donations will give us the ability to fund well over 15,000 special needs children that require the most support in the province."

"What a humbling day for everyone at CKNW. We are all experiencing an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for the truly remarkable support from our listeners, partners and friends. The CKNW Orphans' Fund is near and dear to our hearts and it is evident today, even after all these years, it remains so for this community as well. A sincere thank you to everyone," added CKNW Program Director Larry Gifford.

The CKNW Orphans' Fund team were surprised by a $150,000 donation from a long-time individual donor which helped raise the amount to $1.9 million by 7pm the evening of Pledge Day. Inspired by the work of the Fund, the Robertshaw Family pledged an additional $100,000 contribution the next day to help reach the $2 million dollar donation mark -- the first time this has ever been achieved.
