Red Bend Software Chooses IBM as a Preferred Technology Partner to Deliver Device Management Solutions for Mobile Network Operators and Handset Manufacturers

Joins IBM PartnerWorld Industry Networks

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 19, 2005 -- Red Bend Software, a provider of firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update solutions for mobile devices, today announced it has joined IBM's PartnerWorld Industry Networks. Red Bend will leverage IBM's sales, marketing and technical expertise to develop and deliver comprehensive FOTA solutions that meet the device management requirements of mobile network operators and handset manufacturers.

Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile Firmware Management System (FMS) will be delivered with IBM's WebSphere Everywhere Device Management (WEDM) to provide a comprehensive FOTA solution. Red Bend's FMS enables mobile network operators and mobile handset manufacturers to effectively manage firmware updates. It provides a secure, quarantined environment for selecting, testing, and controlling firmware updates through the entire process from the delivery of updates from the device manufacturers through to the operators' installing the updates on users' mobile handsets.

Red Bend has established a leading position in the FOTA market. Several of the largest mobile handset manufacturers, representing more than 50% of the global market, use Red Bend's solutions to generate extremely compact firmware update packages that can be delivered efficiently over the air, and install them quickly and reliably on mobile handsets.

"Because of our strong FOTA expertise and the broad adoption of our technology by most of the world's handset makers, Red Bend is in a unique position to meet the device management needs of the mobile network operators and handset makers," said Yoram Salinger, president and CEO of Red Bend Software. "The relationship with IBM provides us with excellent, complementary technology and global sales and business development support."

"Customers are seeking open solutions designed to meet their specific business challenges," said Buell Duncan, general manager, ISV & Developer Relations, IBM. "Working with Red Bend through PartnerWorld Industry Networks will help us better serve our joint customers."
