Red Bend Software Reaches 305 Million Mobile Devices Worldwide

Announces Record First Quarter and Expansion of Mobile Ecosystem

WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwire - April 22, 2008) - Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM), today announced it has reached the significant milestone of providing its market-leading vCurrent® Mobile software in more than 305 million mobile phones worldwide. This represents a 190% year-over-year growth rate since first quarter 2007, when the company's firmware over-the-air (FOTA) software shipped in 105 million handsets. Red Bend forecasts that in the second quarter its software will reach 360 million mobile devices, including mobile phones, mobile broadband PC cards and modems, and machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless modules.

Red Bend had a record first quarter, expanding its number of licensees by eight, for a total of 29 customers of its mobile software management solutions. The company announced two new licensees -- ZTE Corp. and Sierra Wireless -- during the quarter.

Manufacturers launched 21 new mobile devices with Red Bend's vCurrent Mobile, bringing the total to 158 Red Bend-enabled devices. New devices include the Sharp 920SH YK "trading phone" and NEC N905i/N905iµ.

"With FOTA software successfully being used to reduce support costs and increase consumer satisfaction, manufacturers and operators are now adding remote management capability for other networked devices," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software. "During the quarter, Red Bend continued its penetration into the mobile phone market and brought the benefits of MSM to wireless modules, PC cards and USB modems, opening up new revenue streams for the company for both our firmware updating and device management clients."

Device-Centric Solutions from Red Bend

During Q1, Red Bend continued to break boundaries in mobile software management, improving the mobile user experience and increasing revenue opportunities for operators, manufacturers and software developers. With the introduction of vDirect Mobile™ in February, Red Bend now offers three mobile software management products:

-- vCurrent® Mobile -- Updates firmware over-the-air (FOTA). It is the
first FOTA client to update mobile firmware while a consumer is using the
phone, without taking the device offline. Plus, revertible updates give
manufacturers and operators the ability to rollback software if needed,
without requiring another connection to the device management server.

-- vRapid Mobile™ -- Updates, adds, configures, and removes individual
software components over the air (SCOTA). It creates new revenue
opportunities for the mobile value chain to easily deliver software
features, applications and services over the air to feature phones and
    smartphones in consumers' hands.

-- vDirect Mobile™ -- Provides remote configuration, provisioning and
updating of mobile phones and wireless devices over the air. The device
management (DM) client lets operators and manufacturers break the
dependency of closed DM systems. It is available as a stand-alone product
or with Red Bend's other client solutions and is interoperable with OMA DM-
    compliant servers.

Expanding Ecosystem for Mobile Software Management

In the first quarter, Red Bend launched MAST, the first Linux mobile phone with software 100% customizable over the air. Red Bend partnered with industry-leading companies -- including Digital Airways, Opera, Synchronica, Trolltech and Zi -- to develop MAST (an abbreviation for Master Key). The demonstration phone showcases a new concept in customizing mobile software that enables features, applications and services to be deployed and updated easily and securely over the air on consumers' handsets using Red Bend's vRapid Mobile.

Red Bend CEO Yoram Salinger created two new executive positions charged with further expanding the ecosystem for the company's products. (See related 4/21/08 announcement, "Red Bend Software Receives $10 Million in Funding to Meet Growing Market Demand for Mobile Software Management; Expands Executive Team to Seize Opportunities in MSM Services and Platforms for Mobile and M2M Markets.")

"Everyone in the mobile value chain benefits from being able to get new services and applications to market faster and to a wider audience," said Morten Grauballe, EVP of MSM Platforms for Red Bend. "The challenge has been achieving this next generation of delivery amid today's fragmentation of mobile platforms and the rapid pace at which new devices are being launched. Red Bend is building on our FOTA market success to further open up access to the software assets on mobile devices and usher in the next phase of innovation in mobile software management."
