Red Bull Illume Brings Best of Action & Adventure Sports to Quintessential Outdoor City

First of Its Kind International Photography Exhibition Comes to Portland

SANTA MONICA, CA--(Marketwire - July 11, 2007) - This August, Red Bull Illume -- a first of its kind international action and adventure sports photography exhibition -- will visit Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square offering residents and visitors alike a spectacular street-side "illumination" of indescribable proportions. Red Bull Illume began as a quest to find the fifty best raw moments in action and adventure sports. Contest judges composed of photography experts from around the world hand-selected 50 images from over 7,200 submissions in over 90 countries to participate in a traveling exhibition touring extraordinary destinations around the world. After the images took Aspen, Colorado by storm this winter and made waves in Huntington Beach, California in June, the larger-than-life photography exhibition heads to Portland's cultural vortex this August, offering new perspectives of photography-as-art on SW 6th Avenue.

On August 2-12, a breathtaking spectacle of 25 eight-foot glass and metal cubes will light up Portland's main thoroughfare each evening from dusk until midnight revealing the most dramatic compilation of action and adventure sports imagery ever assembled. The awe-inspiring outdoor exhibition will illuminate at dusk beginning on August 2, drawing spectators through a larger-than-life street gallery of illuminated photographic expressions on three city blocks on SW 6th Avenue. During the day the mirrored cubes will offer reflective urban views of Portland's bustling downtown and the compact beauty of Pioneer Courthouse Square, affectionately known as the city's "living room."

Athlete Steve Fisher, whose extreme kayaking adventure is featured in the exhibition, shares his reaction to Illume: "Red Bull Illume is the first-ever photo contest to exclusively honor the men and women behind the camera in the outdoor and adventure sports world. For the first time these talented photographers are put on a pedestal and are getting the credit they deserve. It's like the Oscars of the outdoor sports world!"

The judging panel was composed of the toughest critics -- photo editors and photo journalists from photography, action sports and lifestyle magazines from around the world. Judges selected 50 winning images (five finalist images in ten image categories) for the Red Bull Illume traveling exhibition, chosen from over seven thousand international submissions by both amateur and professional photographers. Red Bull Illume celebrates and honors the men and women behind the lens who braved the planet's harshest terrain in order to capture athletic grit and triumph.

Illume participating photographer Brian Nevins shares his experience being part of this competition, "Red Bull Illume is unique because we have never had a competition like this before in this genre. We've watched rock 'n roll, fashion and other types of photography grow and get recognition for the years of hard work dedicated to it. This is the first time we can feel special about what we do and it's been an honor to be a part of it."

Red Bull Illume spotlights the top international photographers who have triumphed in the eyes of experts for their art, spirit, grit and edgy perfection, and the exhibition is a tribute to their creativity and raw skill. The top 10 category winners include:
