Redesigned Medline University Creates Anytime, Anywhere Access to Free Continuing Education for Clinicians

More Than 50 Courses Now Available Online for Desktop and Mobile Users

MUNDELEIN, IL--(Marketwire - May 17, 2010) -  Medline Industries, Inc., the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of healthcare supplies, today announced significant enhancements to Medline University (MU), its online resource for clinical education and product training for healthcare providers. The revamped website (www.medlineuniversity.com) now includes free unlimited access to CE credit courses, live webinars, downloadable podcasts, real-time news feeds and innovative interactive competency tools.

"Today's generation of nurses and other healthcare providers face an exploding volume of literature and increasing attention to the quality and outcomes of medical care. It can be a challenge to find access to the educational sessions needed to stay up-to-date on new technologies and procedures," said Alecia Cooper, R.N., B.S., M.B.A., C.N.O.R., Medline's senior vice president of clinical services. "The new Medline University gives healthcare providers the opportunity to tailor and manage a curriculum specifically to their staffs' education needs -- 24 hours a day/seven days a week."

More than 50 courses are now available covering topics in home care, long-term care, acute care, infection control, incontinence, operating room issues, pressure ulcer prevention, respiratory care and wound care. New staff participation and progress tracking features give healthcare providers a hand in implementing facility specific educational programs and plans. Users also have access to a video library featuring dozens of healthcare experts addressing the healthcare industry's hottest topics.

The anytime, anywhere educational access of MU content is now also enhanced by its new free CE iPhone® and iPod touch® app, now available for download from Apple's iTunes store. Courses are available as audio files, which can be streamed as podcasts to MP3 players and other mobile devices, and as Adobe Acrobat PDF documents for viewing.

Another major addition to MU is cutting edge competency training tools. These animated courses place health care professionals in virtual clinical settings and provide hands-on training on procedures such as inserting a urinary catheter and assessing patients for pressure ulcers.

MU courses are prepared by highly qualified staff at Medline and are approved as continuing education contact hours by the Florida Board of Nursing and the California Board of Registered Nursing. Many of the courses are also certified by the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards.
