Redeveloped Yorkdale Sets Canadian Sales Record

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 24, 2005) - Yorkdale Shopping Centre has set a new sales record for Canadian shopping centre sales, with July results surpassing $900 per square foot. This follows on the heel of the centre's Grand Expansion which opened on April 13, 2005; since then customer traffic has increased by 13% over the same period last year.

More than 180,000 square feet of new space was added in the redevelopment, including stores such as Apple Store, Coach, Mango and Sephora.

"The mall of the future, like the store of the future, must have a clear market position. Yorkdale has always been the ultimate fashion destination in the GTA. With this redevelopment we have mixed the most desired new stores with an established base of successful merchants and our impressive new sales record shows consumers are responding very favourably to the merchandising mix." says John Giddings, General Manager of Yorkdale.

Yorkdale's sales per square foot of $900 is close to double the national average of $467 per square foot, being the most recent reported average sales by the International Council of Shopping Centres.

Yorkdale Shopping Centre is located at Hwy 401 and Dufferin St., with more than 240 stores and services. It was built in 1964 and underwent a $60 million expansion in 2005.
