REDFLEX Lands Corpus Christi Red Light Camera Contract Following Head-to-Head Competition

Red Light Camera Technology Saves Lives and Community Resources

SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 29, 2007 -- REDFLEX Traffic Systems announced today that the city of Corpus Christi has selected REDFLEX to provide photo-based red light monitoring at up to 10 intersections. Selection follows a results-oriented head-to-head competition between key technology providers. Red light camera technology is currently used throughout the world and is credited with saving lives and resources and creating safer communities.

In addition to a Request for Proposal (RFP), Corpus Christi required extensive customer references and site visits to corporate offices and customer locations. Additionally, REDFLEX and two competitors also vying for the business -- American Traffic Solutions and Siemens Energy and Automation -- were required to install and operate a fully functional red light runner detection system for a period of 30 days.

Following the pilot, the City evaluated all three contenders based on performance, image quality, ease-of-use and back-office capabilities and unanimously selected REDFLEX. The company's contract includes monitoring up to 10 intersections over the next five years plus two one-year automatic contract renewals. The REDFLEX system went live in Corpus Christi this week.

"It's a rarity for a city to require head-to-head competition like this between multiple vendors since each vendor must install and then operate a complete system within a very limited timeframe and budget," said Karen Finley, REDFLEX President and CEO. "This was exciting for our entire team because it gave us a chance to participate in an impartial evaluation of our solutions as compared to our competitors. In the end, the results reinforced that what we have to offer is top-notch based on such an extensive and unbiased review," said Finley.

Each year, nearly 1,000 fatalities in the United States are the direct result of collisions caused by red light running. Across the nation, communities are reducing the number of deaths and injuries from red light offenses by 20 to 50 percent, simply by implementing red light cameras.

In addition to saving lives, red light cameras also yield significant cost savings to individuals and their communities. There are fewer property damage claims, lower insurance premiums, reduced medical expenses, and increased productivity for those commuting through once-dangerous intersections.
