Reeves College's Lethbridge Campus Now Offering Addictions & Community Services Worker Program

Albertans Can Expect Stronger Than Average Employment Growth for Community and Social Services Workers Sector

LETHBRIDGE, AB--(Marketwired - March 03, 2015) - Reeves College recently introduced the Addictions and Community Services Worker program to its campus in Lethbridge. The program will provide students with the opportunities they need to integrate the skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom in practical field placements and ultimately, find employment in Alberta's thirsting social services sector.

According to a report released by Statistics Canada in 2012, one in three Canadians reported having symptoms consistent with one or more mental or substance abuse disorders at some point in their life. Over 21 per cent, approximately six million people, reported substance abuse disorder throughout their lifetime. With the average age of first-time drug use stemming at 15 years old, Canada is aching for more addictions and social services workers.

To accommodate to the growing need, Reeves College's program has been designed to train students to become highly capable, accountable, and reliable members of the social services team in less than a year. The 44-week program will cover a broad spectrum that encompasses everything from addiction to intervention to relapse prevention and case file management to interview techniques.

Ranging from substance abuse to domestic violence to mental health, addictions and community service workers face a cornucopia of challenging situations on a regular basis and classroom education is not enough. Upon finishing their classroom courses, students are will complete a practicum placement where they will be able to adapt classroom theory to real-world situations.
