Reflex Security First to Ship 10Gig IPS Solution: Bringing High Performance and Scalable Security to Enterprise Networks

High-Throughput, Scalable Intrusion Prevention Solutions Let University CIOs Address Their "Most Important IT Issue": Security and Identity Management

ATLANTA, GA and DALLAS, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 9, 2006 -- Today, at the EDUCAUSE conference Reflex Security®, Inc. (www.reflexsecurity.com), pioneer and innovator in intrusion prevention systems (IPS), announced it has begun shipping the industry's first multi-gigabit/blade-based IPS solutions for enterprise deployments: the Reflex Security IPS MG Family, with systems delivering throughput from 1 to 10 gigabits of throughput.

The IPS MG Family leverages ATCA blade-based architecture, according to network requirements. ATCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture) is an Intel-backed, standards-based computing platform that is gaining momentum because of its open standards approach.

The new systems also introduce Reflex Security's Distributed Security Architecture™ (DSA). This architecture combines software and hardware technologies that allow traffic to be distributed across multiple processors in a single system. DSA is future-proof, scalable, and allows customers to add faster and additional processors to achieve desired performance levels as their networks scale.

At the architecture's core is Reflex Security's Distributed Security Processor, a blade that connects to Gigabit & 10 Gigabit networks, distributes load across multiple IPS sensor blades for inspection and also offers optional integrated management. The RCC (Reflex Command Center) blade is used to process logs and events as well as provision the system. For more details go to www.reflexsecurity.com.

"The IPS MG Family extends our mission to deliver superior enterprise solutions for intrusion detection and prevention," said Hezi Moore, co-founder/CTO of Reflex Security. "These products are further validation of Reflex Security's mission to bring scalable IPS architecture and more accurate protection across the enterprise." "Blade-based platforms are taking off, and this trend extends to security systems. Seeking investment protection and scalability, enterprise IT managers are finding that blade-based systems give them what they want. Adding resources is as easy as sliding in a new blade, and IT personnel can avoid system-wide fork lift upgrades as new technology becomes available," said John Peterson, VP, Product Management, Reflex Security.

"As Intrusion Prevention Systems operate as in-line network devices running at wire speeds, performance is the first key criterion for selecting enterprise network IPS systems," said Greg Young, research vice president and security analyst, Gartner, Inc. Through low absolute latency levels and predictability, Reflex Security's new IPS MG products overcome what Gartner identifies as the "primary hurdle for an IPS."(1)

Unsafe at the University?

EDUCAUSE's "2006 Current IT Issues Survey"(2) reports that colleges and universities of all sizes are planning spending and staffing growth to meet security threats. Respondents to the 2006 Survey (sent to IT leaders at 1,700+ member educational institutions) picked "Security and Identity Management" as their most strategically important IT-related issue to their institutions. The Report notes: "Higher education institutions are witnessing an expanding threat matrix -- including viruses, spyware, phishing exploits, rootkits, and deliberate electronic break-ins and data theft -- intense media scrutiny of security breaches, and an evolving legal and regulatory landscape."

"Reflex Security protects campus computing worldwide," said Bob Darabant, executive vice president of Reflex Security. "In learning environments sharing of information is essential, however protecting information assets from unauthorized and inappropriate use is also paramount. By working closely with our education customers and channel partners, Reflex Security will continue to help campus IT managers balance the demand for open networking with the need for transparent, yet effective security."
