REGENESIS® Land Science Technologies® Division Wins Esteemed Award for Remediation Efforts

Vapor Intrusion Mitigation Firm One of 20 in the Nation to Earn EPA and ICMA Praise for Brownfield Revitalization

SAN CLEMENTE, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 22, 2016) - REGENESIS®, the global leader of innovative environmental mitigation solutions, is proud to announce that its Land Science Technologies® (LST) division earned distinguished recognition at the recent Brownfields event. A premier industry trade show and training conference, Brownfields is a joint Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and International City/County Management Association (ICMA) event focused on environmental rejuvenation to stimulate economic activity in enervated areas.

Each year, 20 of the most impressive brownfield revitalization projects from across the nation's 10 EPA districts are handpicked for the Phoenix Awards, the most widely respected designation of excellence in brownfield redevelopment. Phoenix Award recipients are chosen by a panel of environmental professionals, government and business leaders based on criteria including: "Magnitude of the project, innovative techniques, solutions to regulatory/social issues and impact upon the community."

Land Science Technologies, which is dedicated to developing and providing advanced vapor intrusion technologies for sustainable land development, was honored with a Phoenix Award for its participation in the revitalization of a 17.5-acre site in Detroit, Michigan. The 80-property assemblage was blighted and severely contaminated from the polluted remains of dilapidated factories, fuel storage operations, a rail yard, paint shops and commercial structure. Remediation of this severely contaminated site resulted in LST's Phoenix Award recognition for its advanced vapor intrusion mitigation technologies.

"Land Science's performance on the redevelopment of what is now the Cardinal Health Medical Distribution Center, a 275,000-square-foot medical supply warehouse, underlines the advancements made as a whole in the environmental remediation and vapor intrusion mitigation fields," said REGENESIS CEO and president, Scott Wilson. "We are honored to have been selected to receive this prestigious award highlighting notable achievement in environmental stewardship."

Experts from LST were charged by the site's environmental consulting firm, AKT Peerless, with crafting the design of its vapor mitigation system. A site inundated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including chlorinated solvents, posed a potential risk to the indoor air quality of the proposed facility. LST's site remediation plan called for a dual-technology approach to impede contaminated vapors from finding a pathway into the structure.

Utilizing proprietary, state-of-the-art Geo-Seal® and Vapor-Vent™ offerings across the site's expansive footprint, the team was able to construct a highly effective, resistant barrier -- sealing the area between the subgrade and building foundation from chemical vapor intrusion.

"Brownfield projects like the $32 million dollar Cardinal Health Medical Distribution Center could not have been redeveloped without advanced remediation and vapor intrusion mitigation technologies," said Wilson. "With the right remediation solutions, brownfields and other environmentally damaged areas can be reimagined and redeveloped into vibrant commercial centers and residential communities."
