Reggie Durden Extends his Contract, He Will be an Alouette Until 2008

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 23, 2006) - Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager, Jim Popp, has announced that defensive back Reggie Durden has signed a new two-year contract plus an option and will remain with the Alouettes until 2008.

Reggie Durden (5'9", 175 lbs.) joined the Alouettes in 2001. In five CFL seasons, Durden made seven interceptions for gains of 124 yards and a touchdown, 188 tackles and a quarterback sack. In 2005, he had one of the best seasons of his career with 54 tackles, two interceptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. He is 29.

Thomas Whitfield and Avon Cobourne invited to training camp
The Alouettes also announced that their 2005 second-round draft pick, defensive back Thomas Whitfield, and promising running back Avon Cobourne signed contracts with the organization.

Thomas Whitfield (5'9", 187 lbs.) is a Canadian defensive back from Windsor, Ontario who played at Syracuse. The Alouettes' second-round draft pick in 2005, 13th overall, Whitfield opted to pursue his career at Syracuse. Over his college career, he made 77 tackles, forced two fumbles, one interception and recovered a fumble in 46 games. He started at cornerback and at free safety in college. He was also a force on special teams. He is 23.

Avon Cobourne (5'8", 205 lbs.) is a running back from West Virginia University who has a few years of experience in the NFL. In 2003, he played seven games with the Detroit Lions, returning seven kickoffs for 127 yards. He carried the ball seven times gaining 27 yards. In 2004, he made a stint in NFL Europe before going to the Lions' practice roster. In 2005, he signed with the Miami Dolphins and was later released. The 26-year old is the all-time leading rusher of the Big East Conference.
