Regional awards honour local people

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - March 22, 2007) - Amicus members who have made an outstanding contribution to the union in Yorkshire & Humberside are due to receive awards from the union's General Secretary, Derek Simpson, on Friday 23rd March 2007.

Six union members have been selected from 65,000 Regional membership by Amicus' Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Council to receive gold medals at the Regional Awards Ceremony which will be attended by more than 150 guests and include the Rt Hon Richard Caborn, MP for Sheffield Central and Minister for Sport.

The winners include David Parr, employed by East Riding College, Hull to receive the Equality and Disability Champion Award; Paul Cockcroft, employed by Leeds Mental Health Trust, to receive the Health & Safety Representative Award; Bill Gray, employed by Corus, Scunthorpe to receive the Learning Representative Award, Brian Bailey, retired, Sheffield to receive the Life Time Service Award; Steven Tattersall, employed by Coca Cola Enterprises, Wakefield to receive the Recruitment and Organising Award and Wesley Dredge, employed by Colin Appleyard, Suzuki Dealer, to receive the Young Organiser Award.

Amicus' Regional Secretary, Davey Hall, said:
"This is the first event of this nature to take place within our region which provides an opportunity for the union to acknowledge and appreciate the wide range of work currently undertaken by our lay Amicus representatives that all too often go without any acclaim.

"I would like to congratulate all those receiving awards and thank them for their commitment to the union."
The Yorkshire & Humberside Regional 2007 Awards Ceremony is taking place at the Queens Hotel, Leeds on the evening of Friday 23rd March at 7.00 p.m.
