Reminder: Canadian Comedians Stand Up For Cambodian Children

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor TORONTO/ONTARIO/MEDIA ADVISORY--(CCNMatthews - May 18, 2006) - A lack of proper health care, education and government are nothing to laugh about - so some of Canada's top comedians are standing up for Cambodian kids, raising funds and awareness through a fun night of comedy called "Comedians for Cambodian Children." Proceeds from the evening will go to combat an array of challenges the impoverished nation is facing today, including the fight against its growing HIV/Aids crisis.

"Comedians for Cambodian Children" features Mike MacDonald, Sean Cullen, Mike Bullard, Jon Dore, Derek Edwards, Stewart Francis, Gerry Dee, Frank Spadone, and Debra DiGiovanni who will perform live at Mississauga's Living Arts Centre on May 18, 2006. Tickets can be purchased for $30, $35, and $45. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8:00pm.

"I am always happy to use my powers for good instead of evil. Seriously, I believe children everywhere should be protected and nurtured and in Cambodia children are especially at risk. I also like the fact that Comedian and Cambodian sound sort of the same," said Sean Cullen.

Funds raised on the night will benefit World Vision Canada, Asian Outreach, and the Tabitha Foundation. Mines Action Canada, Ten Thousand Villages and the Cambodian Genocide Group will also be on hand.

"Doing good in the world and having fun shouldn't be mutually exclusive," said the organizer of the event, David Peck, whose travels to Cambodia galvanized him to do something for that part of the world. "Cambodia has fallen off of the radar screens of Canadians - but the need is very great and very immediate and we're thrilled that so many of Canada's top comedians wanted to do something to help."

"Comedians for Cambodian Children" is presented by David Peck, VPI, and the Living Arts Centre. The evening is intended to create awareness in Canada of the issues facing Cambodia today all while giving folks who come out to the show an evening of great laughs.
