REMINDER/CIDA/Media Advisory: Minister Carroll to Participate in Canadian Launch of Annual UNAIDS report

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 21, 2005) - Minister of International Cooperation, the Honourable Aileen Carroll, will participate in a news conference during which the joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)/World Health Organization report, AIDS Epidemic Update 2005, will be released. Minister Carroll will speak about Canada's role in the global response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, within the context of Canada's new action plan on global health. The Minister will announce funding for a number of initiatives to scale up access to HIV treatment and prevention.

Officials from UNAIDS and from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will also participate in the news conference.

UNAIDS is the main advocate for accelerated, comprehensive and coordinated global action on the epidemic. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is committed to promoting greater equity in global health, education, public libraries, and support for at-risk families.
