Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(CCNMatthews - April 25, 2007) - A first-ever conference on public policy will kick-off the weekend of Professional Engineers Ontario's (PEO) 85th annual general meeting, at which the association will also introduce its new president and governing Council, and celebrate outstanding dedication to the profession by 12 professional engineers at its Order of Honour Awards Investiture.

The theme for PEO's AGM weekend is Engineering and Public Policy, a subject that will be discussed at a conference convened by the association on April 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The conference will feature presentations by a distinguished group of representatives from both the academic and political arenas. Later that evening, 12 dedicated engineers will be honoured with investiture into PEO's Order of Honour at a gala dinner and ceremony. Nominated by their peers, each of them has rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession through the association. Information on the award recipients is available at The evening will also feature the presentation of PEO's President's Award to inaugural recipient Her Worship Hazel McCallion, Mayor, City of Mississauga. This new award will annually recognize outstanding Canadians who have supported and contributed to advancing the engineering profession in Ontario.

On Saturday, April 28, the Hon. Bob Rae will be the keynote speaker at PEO's AGM Luncheon, which follows the association's Annual Business Meeting and precedes the 440th meeting of PEO Council.

The Order of Honour pays tribute to individuals who have rendered conspicuous service to the engineering profession, usually through Professional Engineers Ontario. Those invested in the order have made a substantial contribution to the operation of the profession, its professional status, or one of the many specialized functions of the engineering regulatory body.
