REMINDER/Media Advisory/Canadian SPCA Press Conference Announcing City's First Major Dog Walk-A-Thon

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 29, 2005) - On Sunday October 16, 2005, the Canadian SPCA is closing down Montreal's downtown to host its inaugural dog walk-a-thon, The Shaggy Dog Strut. We are inviting all animal lovers to fill the streets to raise pledges for the SPCA, and to say loudly that we are a community that loves, respects and protects animals.

All media is invited to our press conference on Monday, August 29th, 2005 at St. Paul Hotel, located at 355 McGill, Montreal at 12: 00 a.m. (noon). Join the SPCA along with Quebec personality Michel Girouard and his dog Cachou as we announce the details of the event and unveil the commercial. The SPCA is excited to work with Michel and Cachou on this event. Cachou is a dog that not only enjoys life's luxuries but he is also loved unconditionally by his master! His life contrasts greatly from the thousands of animals that are abandoned each year at the SPCA, or those that we seize from the hands of abuse either from their master or because of the lax animal protection laws in the province of Quebec. We hope this powerful comparison will motivate the public to look at their beloved four-legged friend and be inspired to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

Montreal is one of the only cities in Canada that does not host a major dog walk-a-thon. You are invited to the press conference to learn all about this exciting first-time event. According to Pierre Barnoti, Executive Director of the Canadian SPCA, "After a decade of just trying to keep the door's open, this is the time that the SPCA can re-connect with the communities we serve and work together for animal protection and welfare!".
