REMINDER - Metis Gather in Midland

MNO Celebrates Its Successes and Plans for Future Challenges


MIDLAND, ON--(Marketwired - August 21, 2015) - Hundreds of Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizens from across the province are gathering for the 22nd MNO Annual General Assembly (AGA) on August 22-24 in Midland.

MNO President Gary Lipinski and other members of the Provisional Council of the Métis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO) along with regionally and locally elected MNO leaders will be in attendance.

The traditional welcoming ceremony takes place on Friday, August 21, at 7:00 pm at Pete Pettersen Park and features voyageur canoes paddled by Métis leaders and dignitaries including the Honourable David Zimmer, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and the Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minster of Community and Social Services.

The formal AGA begins at 8:15 am on Saturday at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre in Midland and will include a ceremonial procession as well as greetings from Métis, government and business leaders. President Lipinski, Minister Zimmer and Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown will be speaking during the opening ceremonies. In addition, MNO citizens will witness the signing of the MNO-Union Gas Relationship Agreement and the premiere of award-winning Métis artist Amanda Rhéaume's new song We Aspire, inspired by the MNO's Statement of Prime Purpose.
