An annual Montreal Thanksgiving tradition continues as the Alouettes return to Welcome Hall Mission to serve Thanksgiving Dinner to more than 375 of the city's homeless. An attitude of gratitude will be in the air as fans at Monday's #SSKvsMTL game express their thanks to former quarterback Anthony Calvillo as his iconic #13 is retired at halftime. Calvillo is a long-time participant in the mission's Thanksgiving activities.
Alouette players will continue on the thankful theme as they exchange their football uniforms and game faces for Welcome Hall Mission aprons and wide smiles. Following the annual CFL Thanksgiving Day game, they will personally serve a complete turkey dinner to needy Montrealers.
The Director of the Men's Mission is no stranger to football. A former fullback with the Calgary Stampeders, Farell Duclair was part of 1998 Grey Cup-winning squad. Last year, Duclair joined the team at Welcome Hall Mission and has traded his passion for football for a passion for helping homeless men transition from the streets to reinsertion into society. He never imagined that his career would bring him back to his home town to join the battle to eradicate homelessness. But his never-give-up attitude, belief in community service, drive to help individuals realize their fullest potential and commitment to long-term solutions have combined to convince him that his new role is a calling, not a job.

This year, Nicolas Boulay, Alex Brink, Jonathan Crompton, Chip Cox, Kyries Hebert, Jerrod Johnson, Tanner Marsh, Brandon Whitaker will offer up servings of delicious food and messages of hope to the hundreds on hand. Uplifting music will be provided by "The Pastor" and band*.
Thanksgiving also marks the beginning of an important #seasonofgiving at Welcome Hall Mission. With hunger and homelessness continuing to be significant problems in Montreal, the campaign for funding of meals at $2.97 has never been more important.
